I believe that I did hear a few years back that Quannah Parker's 'Star House' had been restored. I have seen photographs of a Parker family reunion which was held there, and the house appeared much the same as was shown on the site you linked to.

I have not traveled up that way since 1983. At that time, the Star House had declined a little in condition. My sister and I received permission from the manager of the nearby carnival .... and we were able to climb under a barbed-wire fence and to see the outside but not the interior.

Thanks, and take care Like a Star @ heaven

We've all heard of Quannah Parker. Is this house open for tours ? What is close around it to see ?

If i were you just go ahead and call that number ahead of time if your going to be in that part of Oklahoma. Take alook at those other places on that page, you could see Jim Thorpe 's house in the same trip. Quanah is buried at Fort Sill with his mother.

Hi, there Smile

I found these photos which were taken some twenty years ago on a visit to Oklahoma. As Quanah was born in Texas, though, I think it's good to post them here flower

The first is one that I snapped prior to the renovation of the great chief's home. The stars painted on the roof could just be seen, but the whole place looks lovely all-around, now:

There can be seen Quanah's gravestone. There are much clearer photos to be found of it online, of course. It reads:

Resting Here Until Day Breaks
And Shadows Fall and Darkness
Disappears is
Quanah Parker Last Chief of the Comanches
Born 1852
Died Feb. 23, 1911.

Resting beside him, but her stone being just visible here, is mother Cynthia Ann Parker.
