PostSubject: Burial Sites of Cowboys Lost on the Trails   Thu 22 Nov 2007, 2:13 am

Tradition locates the burial of a drover who passed away while on the Shawnee Trail as having taken place in the Ware (or, Wear) Cemetery, near the Rhea Mills Community, in western Collin County. I am uncertain of what his name was or whether his grave is marked, however.

In her book, 'Central Texas Diary,' Gra'Delle Duncan also tells of a cowboy who was killed by lightening while traveling the Chisholm Trail. Stated as having been but a teenager, his name is not given, but his burial place is said to be at the Matsler Cemetery, near Florence, in northwestern Williamson County.

Does anyone have knowledge of where other cowboys may rest along the routes of the old trails?

J. Marvin Hunter's, 'The Drivers of Texas,' may have further references to such places of rest, and I am in the process of searching through those pages.

Thanks.
