| The 2008-2009 edition of the 'Texas Almanac' (the 64th; 'since 1857') is here. It just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? And so does its web-site http://www.texasalmanac.com/ But for those whom it bypassed, do try to acquire a copy of the 2006-2007 edition, should it cross your path. A volume commemorating the sesquicentennal of the Almanac, it contains very good introductory articles on the history of the Spanish mission system in Texas, the resort to healing mineral waters here across the years -- including many locales of the springs and wells -- a summary chronicle of our state's past .... along with ample other delicious features. How can anyone experience a fully blown life in Texas without a recent copy of the 'Texas Almanac' .... in his or her possession? But flipping through the pages of the 63rd edition -- soon to pass into history -- I am led to mention that the most comprehensive study of 'Taking the Waters in Texas' (Springs, Spas, and Fountains of Youth) is that written by Janet Mace Valenza, and published by UT in the opening year of the second millennium. And my offer still stands. Though I wish that Dr. Dave McNeely were here to weigh in on the matter (and to bring down the gavel if necessary), I do suspect that Aurora Water is just about the same as that pulled up at Mineral Wells, old Tiogy, Wizard Wells and the other places where people once flocked for their constitutional betterment. Just bring your jug and I'll fill 'er up for free from our well. Cheers! _________________ The woman of the frontier made the best of her situation, for she had developed a respect for the land that gave her freedom as well as the courage to live in it. ~~~ from the perspective of Anne Seagraves |

| | It's been a lot of years since we had a Texas Almanac in the house, not since I was little living with my parents. |
