| Yes they are, but perhaps we never will be certain of each and every identity?
Those are words that every Texan should know by heart and carry near to heart. No student passing through Texas public schools -- or any public school in our present nation -- should be ignorant of the courageous hope and faith that William Barret Travis placed in us!
We watched the sun attempt to rise upon the Alamo this morning. It was very moving when the last shadows of night retreated .... to reveal patriots keeping a damp vigil for those last gasping breaths amidst the smoke and cries of long (172) years ago. And when the clock crept slowly toward 9:00 to 10:00 AM ~ about the hour of the Alamo's fall ...
A number of the people seen on the web-cam today were present in San Antonio for what they refer to as the 'High Holy Days' .... as should we do. Others were residents of old Bexar, I'm sure, on-hand on a dreary day to pay respects to the memories of heroes.
We didn't capture a still shot of the Alamo during the morning hours, but here is an image of the shrine as dusk came ... and pushed quickly through a pure and merciful sun:

| Really nice. Does the Alamo face west? The Alamo day must be like Fourth of July in the rest of the country except without fireworks.

I was wondering when someone would choose that little polar bear as an avatar
Lindsay ~ will check on the direction which the Alamo faces.
March 6th -- and our other state holidays -- once were celebrated with much more pride and vigor than is the case, now. In fact, they seem to pass without even a whisper in many (of not most or all) of our public schools today.
One reason I began this forum is because I felt estranged from the knowledge and pride of past that my forebears here in Texas once possessed. These weren't conveyed to my generation very well, and I have hoped to place something of the Lone Star State within what, for me, was little more than an empty place.
I believe you stated that you grew up in Indiana. What was the experience of your state heritage during your childhood?
Thanks for your perspectives

| | Good picture. That's one of the best San Antones you see there still paying his respects. |
