This young lady posed for her CDV portrait at the M. W. Neihart studio in Whitesboro, Grayson County, Texas. Like so many others, her small photo is unidentified.

I wonder how old this picture is. Do you have any idea?

Howdy, Tinkerbell queen

My guess is that the little portrait was made between the close of the Civil War and 1870. This young woman may have been sadly acquainted with the events surrounding the Great Hanging at Gainesville (mentioned elsewhere here), as Whitesboro is located just east of the Cooke County line. Hopefully, we will be able to learn more about the photographer -- Neihart -- in the future.

Whitesboro is a lovely and quaint town. We almost moved there from Denton County some years back. I found a wonderful and roomy home up that way ~ constructed in the four-square, prairie style. Instead, we relocated to a 1960s-ranch house in Denton-City. I'm a little wistful at the recollection of Whitesboro and that old place.

Here are the USGen Web pages for Grayson County, and an old view of Whitesboro's Main Street:

She's got that distant look in her eyes, there's a fellow out there somewhere.

Maybe her boyfriend was fighting in the Civil War and she wanted a picture to send him.
