| Decades have passed since I last crossed the Rio Grande into Mexico. While no plans are on our family's agenda to make a trip to the borderlands soon, I would like to learn more about the historic structures which one may visit on both sides of the River. Colonial architecture is of special interest, but really so is any dating back beyond the turn of the twentieth century (in truth, such is it all ).
Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission Church in Juarez is one which we've been able to acquire postcard views of. Here are images of its exterior and interior:

Has anyone, perhaps, visited the towns of Roma, San Ygnacio, Guerrero, or Mier?
Also, might someone have travel tips to offer tourists venturing across the Border?
Thank you,

| The City-Data forums seem to be the place to surf to if one is interested in the state of the state -- or of the United States, for that matter -- when viewed from the ground.
One participant there was so generous as to share these lovely photographs of such South-Texas villages as San Ygnacio and Roma:

While postdating the Colonial period -- so far as I can tell -- the structures and the vistas seen in the photos clearly carry a North Texan to another place and seemingly .... another time. _________________ The woman of the frontier made the best of her situation, for she had developed a respect for the land that gave her freedom as well as the courage to live in it. ~~~ from the perspective of Anne Seagraves |
